Almost 300 kids and teenagers have died due to damages related with toys since 1990. There are 200,000 emergencies room visits every year in the US. These accidents are result of kids that ingest or suffocate themselves with the small parts of the toys, or that fall off from ride toys. One of the last surveys made in the US demonstrated that even if toys are made safer today, there are some that are very dangerous because they have very little pieces or because they involve some risks that must be advertised by the manufacturers in the toy labels.
Some of the dangers that toys involve are toxic chemical danger, which is that toys are now more complicated, some of the materials are composed by chemicals or special plastic additives (like phthalate) to make them more flexible (normally presented in children's toys like teething rings). Phthalate has been demonstrated to cause several injuries in organs like liver, kidneys, lungs and genitals. Another hazardous toxic material is xylene, which can be found in girl's cosmetics sets and nail polish.
Another danger may be strangulation. Some toys like yo-yos have long cords or elastic bands, which represent a big risk especially for little children. There is also the choking danger that is present in toys with little pieces like Lego pieces, balloons and many others. Finally the most regular toy injuries are due to riding toys like non motorized scooters, skids and others. These toys may cause a severe damage to children, especially when they fall off from toys like those ones.
If your children have suffered damage caused from a toy accident, you may be compensated for injuries in a probable court case.
