As you know, is very important for some people to follow the latest fashion; and one of these fashions is: keep a good diet and do not be a fat person; that is why there are a lot of companies that manufacture weight loss products. Many of these products promise that they are the best of the market and that they are 100 % made of natural ingredients; sadly, many people who want to be "in fashion" go to the drugstore and buy these products and they do not ask about the possible secondary effects that they could cause them.
One of these products is Meridia, which is the commercial name of a diet drug known as sibutramine and that is produced by Abbot Laboratories. An estimated showed that almost nine million people around the world use or have used this drug that treats fatness and promotes weight loss from the time when it was launched to the market in 1998. Since that date, Meridia has been linked with twenty nine deaths, just in the United States. Of the twenty nine persons that died, nineteen of them passed away for cardiovascular complications like heart attacks.
Prior to its authorization in 1997, a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) consultative team said that the profits of Meridia were not able to compensate the risks. The FDA medical officer who evaluated the drug said that Meridia has an insufficient risk-benefit relation and as a result of that this reviewer suggested non authorization of the original submission.
If you or someone that you know died or suffers injuries for using this drug, contact an attorney and ask him/her about the probabilities to be compensated in a possible court case.
