Is not a secret for anyone that people with disabilities (people on a wheelchair, blind people, deaf people and others) are not treated with the same conditions that a person without one of that kind of problems. For example: there are several places that have no access for people who are on a wheelchair. To prevent these acts there is a law called: Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This law protects all the people who have physical or mental incapacities.
A frequent question is who is protected by the ADA? The ADA protects all the people who suffer a physical or mental harm that prevents them from realizing some activities such like walk, run, see or perceive sounds. As mentioned above, blind people, deaf people and people on wheelchairs are protected, but the ones who suffer epilepsy, diabetes, HIV infection, arthritis, hypertension and carpal tunnel syndrome are also protected.
Many people who suffer disabilities (also called handicappers) do not receive equal opportunities, especially those who want to get a job. The ADA has several requirements that employers must respect, some of these requirements are: the employer must offer equal opportunities for people with disabilities that apply for a job, employers also have to offer equal opportunity of promotion for disabled people.
If you or someone that you know suffers any kind of disability that is protected by the ADA and that is maltreated, contact your lawyer and ask him/her about the possibilities to make a claim and be awarded in a court case.
